Rylee and Zack: A Connection Across Time {Child Session, Mount Pleasant, PA}

Liz approached me this past May about having a session for her little girl, Rylee.  She came to me with an idea and we worked together to bring her vision to life.

Just under three years old, Rylee had a special pair of boots that had belonged to her Uncle Zack, who passed away years ago before Rylee was born.  This session was meant to document the connection between Rylee and her Uncle through this favorite pair of boots they both loved and his presence in her life.

We decided to incorporate a blue balloon to represent Uncle Zack's presence.

The session took place at a private orchard in Mount Pleasant, PA, between the small towns of Hecla and Armbrust.  It was the perfect location for this spunky little girl's photos with lots of room to run and play!  You can tell these boots have had soo much love and wear!

Rylee is the sweetest little girl!  She wasn't too sure of me at the start of the photoshoot, but pretty soon she was chasing me around the orchard!

After posting a small preview on social media, Liz ended up having to explain the session to friends and family (who mistakenly thought this was a pregnancy announcement).  The following was a part of Liz's explanation:

"Before these pictures I was sad Rylee would never get to meet him, but after watching her put on these boots, run through the puddles with her ornery grin, and her sitting with the evening sun hitting her golden hair just right all while she either held this blue balloon or it lingered close by I was reminded she knows him more then we all know because he's always with her and We talk about him with her."

Reading Liz's explanation I was moved to tears.  This entire session was very inspiring to me and I wanted to recognize the importance of the photoshoot in the form of a poem.  (Poetry has been a hobby of mine since high school.  It's a wonderful feeling for me when I can not only make use of this little talent, but when I can give something that's so deeply personal.)

And we're off!  Thank goodness for puddles!  Up until this point Rylee was still being very shy, eyeing up my camera and hiding behind mom.  But as soon as she got her feet wet (pun intended!) she forgot all about the camera and just began to play and have fun!

This shot below is one of my favorites - though I do have a lot!  So much happiness!

Of course I've always got to get at least one with mom!  And this shot below - it's just the essence of childhood, is it not!?

I'm so glad Liz approached me to take these photos and that I was able to be a part of something so special.
