Boudoir Photography {Becky’s Pre-Wedding Session, Youngwood, PA}

I approached Becky a few month’s ago asking if she would be interested in a boudoir session with her wedding just around the corner. A boudoir album can be a beautiful gift for your significant other, but more importantly, yourself. I was thrilled that she said yes as boudoir sessions are such a beautiful and empowering experience.

We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with images of unrealistic and unattainable beauty; photoshopped images of stars and covergirls that no one can live up to. Somehow, even though we know this is a fact, we still measure ourselves against these standards and of course, we find ourselves lacking. Unfortunately, this way of seeing ourselves begins at a young age. Between the images that they view and the self deprecating remarks we as parents make, our children become victims of a self-hating cycle. I’m just as guilty as the next person.

I never really considered how I pick at myself until I had a daughter of my own. She’s at an age now where she thinks that everything is “boo-tiful” and I am doing my best to try and be a positive role model. I want her to grow up comfortable in her own skin feeling “boo-tiful” and she will only learn to do that if she learns it from me.

That brings us back to the subject at hand which is boudoir photography - no matter how much I talk about self-love we all have our insecurities and it takes a certain amount of trust to bare yourself to someone. A boudoir session will allow you to see yourself the way that other people see you. I am continually awed by how shocked my clients are - they didn’t know they could look this good. Their confidence level goes through the roof and they feel beautiful. If you need to look at that picture everyday to remind yourself that YOU are the damn covergirl, then do it! It’s nice to say, “Hunny, here’s a gift for you” but let me tell you, he already knew you were the covergirl - you’re the one that needed that eye-opener. Here’s a secret, you can buy the album for him (or her), but it’s meant for you. Bring on the self love.

Onwards and upwards. Becky was excited, but nervous about her shoot. Again, she was thrilled with the end result and couldn’t wait to gift her album to her fiance before their November wedding in Johnstown PA. While we were finalizing her album Becky even said something to me along the lines of “I want them all. Not because I love myself, but because I love how you made me look.” Becky - this is you, this is how beautiful you are and please, do love yourself!
